Now is as good a time as any, in fact it’s the only option
I have been mulling over the idea of starting a blog for years now and have just never got round to it. If I’m being completely honest the main reason for that is I didn’t know what I was going to talk about or why (two factors I would say are quite important). But a lot has changed for me over the past year, I know what I want to talk about and I know why, so ‘now is a good a time as any’ to get started.
In January this year I took a giant leap into the world of freelancing. I’d tiptoed around the idea before but there never seemed to be a right moment (a bit like starting the blog) for me to actually go for it. I could come up with a million reasons that I couldn't do it but really I think I was just scared. Working for yourself can be an intimidating prospect that immediately sends the brain into some sort of must-question-everything overdrive. Do I know what I’m doing? Will I be able to pay my bills? Will I want to work on my own everyday? And of course my brain, being the worrier that it is, tells me NO to all of these questions before I’ve even tried!
Anyway, I then had an unfortunate situation at the job I was in and after feeling fairly let down and a little taken advantage of I realised that being employed was no more secure than being self employed. That was it, decision made. January was a whirlwind of a month and my brain was always there, questioning my decision at every opportunity, but I was determined to make it work. It’s now been 6 months, I am incredibly glad everything worked out the way it did and now I’d like to share more of my story and hopefully encourage more of you to take the step I did.
I’d also love to hear your stories and any helpful advice you may have for your fellow freelancers so please do leave a comment below.
